Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of These Terms

By creating an account or using MyCivvy you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the service. We may update these terms from time to time — material changes will be announced at least 30 days in advance.

These terms apply alongside our Privacy Policy.

2. What MyCivvy Does

MyCivvy is a multi-city civic directory. Residents discover local events, businesses, nonprofits, volunteer opportunities, and city programs. Organizations submit listings; city administrators approve what appears on the public portal.

MyCivvy is a platform — we do not endorse, verify the safety of, or guarantee the accuracy of third-party listings or organization profiles.

3. Accounts & Roles

The platform supports four account roles:

  • Resident — browse and search public listings; no submission privileges.
  • Organization — create one organization profile and submit listings for moderation under that organization.
  • City admin — review and approve or reject listings within an assigned city; verify organizations within that city.
  • Super admin — platform-wide access for operational tasks.

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity that occurs under your account.

4. Content Standards

You retain ownership of content you submit. By submitting, you grant MyCivvy a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, display, and distribute that content on the platform for the purpose of operating the directory.

You will not submit content that:

  • Infringes copyright, trademark, or other intellectual-property rights.
  • Is unlawful, defamatory, harassing, hateful, or threatening.
  • Promotes illegal goods or services, violence, or self-harm.
  • Misrepresents the identity or affiliation of an organization.
  • Contains malware, phishing links, or attempts to compromise the platform.
  • Is sexually explicit, or directed primarily at children under 13.

City admins may reject or remove any listing that does not meet these standards. Repeated violations may result in account suspension or termination without refund.

5. Featured Boosts & Payments

Listing owners may purchase a featured boost to promote an active listing for a fixed period (currently 3, 7, or 30 days). Boosts are billed in Canadian dollars through Stripe, our payment processor.

All boost purchases are final and non-refundable once placement begins, including for the remaining unused portion of an active boost. If a listing is removed by a city admin during an active boost for violating these terms, no refund is owed.

If a duplicate charge or technical billing error occurs, email hello@mycivvy.ca within 30 days of the charge and we will investigate in good faith.

6. Moderation & Removal

City admins moderate listings within their city. Super admins may act platform-wide. We may remove content or suspend an account if we reasonably believe it violates these terms, applicable law, or the rights of others.

You may delete your own listings, organization profile, or account at any time from the dashboard. Deletion is processed within 30 days, subject to retention requirements described in our Privacy Policy.

7. Disclaimers

MyCivvy is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access, error-free operation, or the accuracy, safety, or legality of third-party listings.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, MyCivvy and its operators disclaim all warranties, express or implied, and shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of your use of the platform.

8. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold MyCivvy harmless from any claim arising out of (a) content you submit, (b) your violation of these terms, or (c) your violation of any law or third-party right.

9. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. The courts of Alberta have exclusive jurisdiction to resolve any dispute arising out of these terms or your use of MyCivvy.
